First Lights – Gudjurah, presented for Carnarvon’s inaugural Gnulli Festival, will bring a powerful Creation story from Yinggarda Country into the night sky.
As the culmination of the festival, this large-scale drone light, sound and storytelling experience will unfold above the Carnarvon Fascine, guided by Elder, Kath Ryan. Through choreographed formations, the work will trace the story of the gudjurah — Dreamtime serpent creators — and their role in shaping the land and waterways of the Gascoyne region.
Across the sky, serpents will rise and shift, carving rivers and forming pathways through Country. Spirits will move between forms — human, animal and elemental — revealing moments of transformation, tension and connection between land and sea.
